JW Marriott Indianapolis – Charting a Green Course

Wednesday, June 30, 2010 posted by Scott Blalock in Construction, General

Do you want to do business with a hotel that is environmentally conscious? If so, the new JW Marriott Indianapolis is the hotel for you. I want to tell you about some of the many ways our new JW is going to be more environmentally conscious.

Building to be Greener
Wherever possible the hotel is being built using the latest green technology, incorporating both energy efficient and green building materials. Some examples of the materials being used include:

  • More LED lighting than any hotel in the country with over 5,000 LED lights. This means much less energy consumed. Did you know an LED light can last up to 10 years and uses 90% less energy than an incandescent bulb?
  • State-of-the-art guest room energy management system with motion detectors. Guest room digital thermostats are automatically adjusted when rooms are not occupied.
  • CFC-free freezers and coolers, to help protect the ozone, throughout the hotel.
  • Guest room toilets and sinks will have low-flow features which conserve water.
  • Staff service area lighting will be on motion detectors.

Operating Greener
Of course, our commitment to the environment does not stop with the building materials. We are going to be very focused on conserving energy, reducing waste and protecting our natural resources. Our initiatives include:

  • Comprehensive recycling process that includes all plastic, paper, metal, glass and cardboard.
  • Guest room recycling – all guest rooms will be equipped with recycle containers and our room attendants will be trained in all aspects of recycling.
  • Linen reuse program allowing guests to avoid having their linens washed if they choose not to.
  • We are a 100% non-smoking hotel.

Hosting Green Meetings
And finally, for meeting planners looking to hold green meetings and events, the JW Marriott Indianapolis can help by providing things like 100% recycled note pads, pens made from recycled materials, meeting room recycling, paperless billing and more.

As you can see, we’re doing what we can to minimize our impact on the environment and maximize the experience for our guests.

I invite you to come visit us when we open in February 2011 and let us know if you agree.

Until next time,
Scott Blalock

Meet the new Indianapolis. Meet the new JW Marriott Indianapolis.

Indianapolis is undergoing a transformation and if you haven’t seen our great city recently, you have to check it out.

And at the center of it all is the new JW Marriott Indianapolis hotel, scheduled to open in February 2011.

My name is Scott Blalock and I’m the General Manager of the JW Marriott Indianapolis. Welcome to my blog. I hope you’ll follow my blog for periodic updates as I take you on the journey of this spectacular hotel. Along the way, I’ll give you updates on the construction of the hotel as well as other key milestones we reach in preparation for our opening.

The JW Marriott Indianapolis is truly a magnificent hotel. It stands at 34 stories tall – the tallest hotel in Indiana – and the entire façade is made of locally assembled sparkling blue glass panels. 7,300 glass panels to be exact. And that’s just the outside! Inside you’ll find an incredible array of beautiful materials coming together to form a superb product. From the luxurious bedding to the large, high-definition plasma-screen TVs, this is going to become an iconic hotel for Indiana and the United States.

Construction is ahead of schedule, and we have over 500 people working hard every day to keep it that way. The building was topped off last December and the hoists will be coming down in July. Carpeting and wall coverings are complete in over 700 of our 1,005 rooms. In short, we’re getting ready! The Grand Opening is set for February 2011.

We can’t wait to open our doors to you so that you can see it for yourself!

Until next time,

Scott Blalock
